Different is not less. Support begins when judgment ends.
Neurodivergence is part of the natural range of human minds. Children do best when the adults around them understand their needs, respect their identity, and make room for how they learn and communicate.
Understanding neurodivergence
See the whole child, not a label.
Neurodivergence can include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette syndrome and other differences. Every child’s strengths, needs and ways of communicating are individual.
Support is not one-size-fits-all
Useful support may include predictable routines, sensory accommodations, communication tools, movement breaks or different ways to demonstrate learning.
Families should not navigate alone
Schools, health teams, community organizations and government programs can each hold part of the support picture. We help families see the path more clearly.
Respect the language people choose
Some people prefer identity-first language, such as “autistic person”; others prefer person-first language. Follow the individual’s preference whenever possible.

You do not need to understand every system at once. Start with the pathway closest to your family’s immediate need.
PATH 01
At school
Ask how the school can reduce barriers and support your child’s learning, communication, participation and well-being.
- Request a meeting with the classroom teacher and learning-support team.
- Share strengths, triggers, successful strategies and your child’s own perspective.
- Ask about an Individual Education Plan or the equivalent in your province.
- Document agreed accommodations, responsibilities and follow-up dates.
PATH 02
Province or territory
Programs may help with therapy, respite, family support, assistive services and disability-related costs.
- Apply early; some programs have assessment steps or waiting lists.
- Keep diagnostic, school, medical and expense records together.
- Ask whether one application opens access to related programs.
- Review eligibility again when your child’s needs or age change.

Federal programs
Federal tax credits, benefits and savings programs may support eligible children and their families.
- Review Disability Tax Credit eligibility with a qualified practitioner.
- Check the Child Disability Benefit alongside the Canada Child Benefit.
- Explore a Registered Disability Savings Plan for long-term security.
- Use the Government of Canada Benefits Finder for other possible supports.

Co-Founder
Savitha Ramapriyan
Savitha is a licensed paralegal and notary in Mississauga and the founder of SR Paralegal Services, where she is committed to making legal support accessible and affordable.
Her community involvement has included volunteer service with the Older Adults Centre in Mississauga and support for Kannada Sangha Toronto. At Neuro Star, Savitha brings a practical, family-centred perspective to education, peer connection and community support.

Ramapriyan “Ram” Gopal
Ram is a senior financial-services and technology executive with extensive experience in strategy, transformation, partnerships and organizational leadership.
He also serves on the City of Mississauga Accessibility Advisory Committee. At Neuro Star, Ram focuses on advocacy, partnerships and making complex education and government-support systems easier for families to navigate.
